Not Fine in School is a parent/carer-led organisation set up in response to the growing number of children and young people who struggle with school attendance. This struggle may relate to unmet Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (diagnosed or suspected), bullying, trauma, physical or mental illness. School attendance difficulties are poorly understood, are compounded by current challenges within the education and health systems, and can have severe consequences for both child and family. NFIS aims to support these children and their families, and raise awareness of their experiences.
No-one should be alone in coping with school-based anxiety and attendance difficulties. We provide peer-support for family members, and advice for young people and schools.
We share informative resources to help you make decisions, find solutions for school attendance difficulties, and take positive steps to find help and support for your child and you.
We work alongside other organisations and people to campaign for change. We also seek out ways to share knowledge of school refusal and raise awareness of related issues.
The family who made this video told us: "after four terms of increasing decline in mental health due to unmet SEN we felt we had no choice but to Home Educate as school was becoming a safeguarding issue for us."
School refusal is more common than we think, and we need to be aware of that. This film wants to give you a perspective of a young student who is struggling with school refusal.
